The former RBC Tennis Championships of Dallas player defeated Bradley Klahn 6-4, 6-2 in the singles championship match and secured his first Challenger Tour title of the year.

Klahn, another past Dallas player, took out the top seed Ernesto Escobedo in the Round of 16 while McDonald was able to get past the second-seeded Tennys Sandgren in the quarterfinals en route to the title match.

McDonald reached the Round of 16 in Dallas this past year, losing to the eventual champion Ryan Harrison in straight sets.

It was RBC Tennis Championships of Dallas doubles champ David O’Hare who picked up the doubles title in Fairfield, getting the win alongside Luke Bambridge – the pairs’ second Challenger Tour title of the year. Bambridge and O’Hare won in straight sets, defeating Akram El Sallaly and Bernardo Oliveira 6-4, 6-2 in the finals.

O’Hare won his improbable Dallas title this year with Joe Salisbury, with the duo making it all the way through qualies to capture the win.

Stellar showing by past Dallas players at US Open https://www.tennischampionshipsofdallas.com/stellar-showing-by-past-dallas-players-at-us-open/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=stellar-showing-by-past-dallas-players-at-us-open https://www.tennischampionshipsofdallas.com/stellar-showing-by-past-dallas-players-at-us-open/#respond Thu, 14 Sep 2017 19:17:40 +0000 http://www.tennischampionshipsofdallas.com/?p=12763 In a year with multiple standout grand slam performances by former RBC Tennis Championships of Dallas players, the US Open may have been one of the finest collectively.

With six past Dallas players advancing to the Round of 16, one made it all the way to the finals – Kevin Anderson. But the South African was no match for the resurgent Rafael Nadal, falling to the top seed in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

Winner of the 2015 Dallas doubles title, Andrey Rublev had his most successful grand slam outing, marching all the way to the quarterfinals to face the eventual champion Nadal.

Also included in that list of past Dallas players to reach the quarterfinals were Philipp Kohlschreiber, Mischa Zverev, Sam Querrey, and Paolo Lorenzi.

It was a competitor in the last two RBC Tennis Championships of Dallas events who really made an impression early on in the tournament. American Frances Tiafoe showed off his forehand power against the five-time US Open champion Roger Federer, pushing the legend to five sets before falling in a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 opening round match.

In the doubles draw, it was a former RBC Tennis Championships of Dallas player who was part of the winning team. The 36-year-old Jean-Julien Rojer won his second grand slam title with teammate Horia Tecau as the two defeated Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez 6-4, 6-3.
